What It Does
Each day, AP receives your school's attendance data and automatically sends a text message to a guardian when a student has an absence code your district has flagged for guardian contact (for example, an unexcused absence). This is the first message a guardian sees — it's what starts the conversation, if one is needed.
Outreach is intentionally simple: it doesn't hold a conversation, ask questions, or make judgment calls. It reads the day's attendance data and sends a message based on rules your district has set up in advance.
Which Absences Trigger a Text
Your district controls which absence codes generate an outbound text. Typically, codes representing an unexcused or unexplained absence are configured to trigger outreach.
One Message Per Guardian Per Day
If a student has multiple absences recorded on the same day (common when attendance is tracked period by period), AP only sends one text for that student that day — triggered by the first qualifying absence. Guardians won't be messaged once per class period.
When a Text Is Skipped
If your front office has already logged a note on an absence before AP processes the day's file, AP treats that as a signal the absence is already being handled and skips outreach for that student entirely. In other words, if your staff got there first, guardians won't get a redundant text.
