How to use Custom Audiences

Use this article to learn about the new improvements to Alerts sent from Live Feed and Alert Center.

Selecting an Audience

To build a one time Audience, select + Add custom audience on the right side of the screen.

Using an existing audience

All pre-built audiences that are available to be used are available on the left side of the screen, each will include a globe icon to the right of the name if it has the ability to be translated using language data in the list.

Choosing a Source

Once + Add custom audience has been selected, a list will appear that contains all the existing call list audiences created. Choose whichever list works best for you, it could be your All Students/Guardians, Building, or Transportation List.

Note: the globe icon indicates what lists are set up for translation if enabled during the alert building process.

Conditional Filtering

Once a source list is selected, the first column in the data will be shown in the drop down, clicking the dropdown will show the rest of the columns that can be filtered on.

Once a column is chosen, you can choose to either use Equals or Not Equals, then select the drop down box on the right side of the screen to get a search box, and drop down list of all the choices available to include. Select multiple checkboxes to filter from the same column.

Recipient Count

Upon selecting an existing list from your prebuilt Audiences (sourced from the Data Management > Call List section), or while working in the custom audience builder window, users see a preview of the count of unique phone numbers and emails that will be included in the Alert.

Selecting the See all recipients button will pull up a preview that shows a table preview of who is in the recipient group you've built before sending.

Select Contacts (Select ID/Bulk Select ID)

Users can select individual or bulk IDs to reach out to contacts by clicking +Add custom audience, then selecting the Select Contacts section at the top of the window.

Select ID

Changing to Select Contacts allows you to pick a source call list audience to start, then select the checkboxes next to individual IDs for a set of users you want to reach out to. After clicking Add these users will be added to a custom audience.

Bulk Select ID

Bulk Select ID supports either direct copy and pasting of IDS into a text box, or Uploading a csv or tsv file to import the IDs you would like to select.

Paste IDs

Upload File

Unfound IDs

When using Bulk Select ID there is the chance you will submit IDs that aren't found in the Audience list you are selecting from, you will be prompted with a report (that can also be downloaded) that contains the missing IDs we cannot find.

Multiple Column Conditions (Filters)

Types of Filters (AND) or (OR)

If you would like to add multiple filters to your audience selection, you can select the + Add condition button to filter down further:

  • If All filters (AND) is selected, the options shown in the drop down will already be filtered using the first condition above it (similar to how filtering a call list currently works)

  • If Any filters (OR) is selected, the options shown in the drop downs will contain all options, allowing you to filter for multiple things at the same time. (this is a new option that allows for multiple filters to be used together in an additive way)

Once you have selected your conditions/filters, click Add, this will take you back to the Audience screen where you can either add more sources, or complete your Alert.
