How to build a CMS page

Page Builder - Layout

The Page Builder is the section of CMS where you can edit the content of a specific page. It features a drag-and-drop interface, allowing you to pull items from the sidebar and place them on the page.

You can add two basic categories of items: Layout and Content elements.

Layout elements allow users to create multi-column page layouts. It is possible to add multiple Layout elements to a page, combining them to create more complex layouts.

Content elements are what enable you to add text and images to your page. All Content elements must be nested within Layout elements.

Once added to a page, both Layout and Content elements can be easily rearranged by dragging and dropping them. Content elements can also be moved from one Layout element to another.

Layout Elements:

  • Drag-and-drop items for creating column layouts on your page.

  • You can use multiple elements on a page.

  • Nest within other Layouts.

  • It's recommended to limit the use of different column layouts to two or three per page for readability.

    Content Elements:

    • Nest within Layouts.

    • At least one Layout element is required on the page before adding content.

Steps to adding a Layout Element:

      • Click and hold the element with your mouse.

      • Drag it onto the page.

      • Release the mouse button.

      How to Rearrange Multiple Elements:

      • Click on one of the elements.

      • Use the drag handle to change their order.

Page Drafts

When you begin to make changes to a page a Draft of that page will automatically be created. All changes to Drafts are saved automatically and you are not required to save changes.

If you are going back to a page you've already created, select Edit my draft to get into the page builder/editor

Drafts are saved alongside the Main version of the page. Users can work on their Draft without updating the Main versions until they are ready

Drafts are unique to each user

When you are ready to finish saving your changes, click Review changes, you will be taken to a screen where you can compare the differences to the current version and click confirm changes.

  • Owners and Editors: When users are ready they can review the differences between their Draft and the Main Page and confirm the changes to set their Draft as the Main version of the page.

  • Moderated Editors: When changes are complete, Moderated Editors can propose the changes from their draft and they will be submitted for approval by the Page Owner.

Tip: If the you already have an existing Draft you won’t be able to restore a previous version to your drafts without discarding your existing draft first.

Publishing and Unpublishing Pages

In CMS pages can have several statuses: Unpublished, Published, or Archived.

Unpublished Status

If a page is unpublished, this allows you to edit and save changes to a page without it being accessible on your website. Even if someone has the specific URL of the page, as long as it's unpublished, they'll get a page not found error. If you're working on a page's content but have not yet finalized you work, it's usually a good idea to keep it unpublished.

Published Status

Pages that are published can be viewed on your public facing site. Published pages are always accessible even if they're not included on your Site Menu. If someone is provided the page URL they can visit the page by entering it directly in their browser. Once a page is published, if you make changes and publish those, they'll be immediately visible on your site.

To Publish/Unpublish a page:

In the Pages Menu or Site Menu, Hover over the ... option in the Actions column. From the dropdown that opens, select either Publish or Unpublish depending on the current status of the page.

Additionally, you can Publish or Unpublish from the preview page using the Page Info tab on the left side of the screen that is combined with the Activity Log
